Hi sk8teroy, it could be either. Desktop systems & notebooks will shut down all by their self’s if the CPU starts to over-heat. This is a fail safe so the system does not fry. Go to the link below & download the eSettings Management Guide in PDF format. (If this software is not currently installed into your system you should be able to find it on the Acer CD's & install it). http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/data/7117/documents/Acer%20eSettings%20Management%20for%20DT.pdf
015012This software will check some important system settings.
015012Your Aspire SA20 was made around 2005. If you have never cleaned the interior of the PC please do so. If you have the option of using an air compressor, blow the system out. (Careful not to hit the CPU fan or any fan in the system with the nozzle). Blow out the power supply as well. If an air compressor is not available than use canned air assisted with a 1' or 2' clean paint brush to help remove dust build-up under the fan blades. If you Acer has an adjustable air vent on the side of the case, make sure it is opened fully. Your system needs plenty of fresh air.
015012I'm guessing the SA20 came with 512MB of memory. The built in video card is set to use 32MB of system memory. It’s real hard to play Counter-Strike with 32MB of video memory. I'm surprised you’re even able to get the game started yet play it. You have plenty of CPU power to play any game but you need more memory. Not having enough of memory will not cause your system to shut down. Depending on the application in use & having too little memory can & will cause windows to freeze from time to time but rarely shut down a system. Here is a link to upgrade your Aspire SA20 memory. This memory will run with your current memory.

015012Once you increase the memory size you can set the Aspire SA20's bios to use 128MB or 256MB for the graphics card. Your games will run 100% faster & smoother. Windows will like it too.
015012If you never ran windows system defrag, please do so. This will help your hard disk drive plenty.
015012To run defrag left click the start button & slide up to All programs, than slide up to Accessories than to System tools & click Disk Defragmenter. I am pretty sure your system will stop shutting down if you follow these suggestions.
015012If you need more help or have more questions just post them here & I'll jump right in.
